June 2024 Roundup of Privacy News
Welcome to another edition of my monthly roundup of privacy-related news. This month, I saw a variety of headlines, but the biggest one was definitely the European Unionβs attempts to break end-to-end encryption. While they have backed down for now, the battle to break is far from over. And with that, letβs get into this monthβsβ¦
Change your browser - Instead of using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, use a more privacy friendly browser such as Firefox, LibreWolf, Mullvad Browser, or Tor.
Change your search engine - Use DuckDuckGo, Mojeek, or SearchXNG for your browsing instead of Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
Use a VPN - Using a VPN will allow you to mask your true location. Use reputable providers such as Proton VPN and Mullvad VPN. Stay away from free VPNs.
Delete old accounts - It makes no sense to keep data hosted on their servers for accounts you no longer use. The deletion of those accounts means they can no longer sell or share your data.
Donβt link online accounts - You know when you login to a service and it gives you the option to login using your Facebook, Google, or Apple credentials? Yeah, donβt do that. This allows them to collect and share your data for those services. Simply use an email or email alias for your logins instead.
If you have any other simple privacy tips to share, feel free to leave them in the comments.
Until Next Time,
