What is Molly?
Signal gets an upgrade
Molly is an “independent Signal fork for Android,” essentially an unofficial Signal client that is available only for Android. With Molly, you get several unique features that you don’t get with the official Signal app, such as:
Data encryption at rest
Secure RAM wiper
Multi-device support
Disappearing call history
Additionally, there are two versions of Molly that you can download: Molly and Molly-FOSS. The difference between the two versions is that Molly has some proprietary elements (uses Google Maps), while Molly-FOSS is 100% open source and only uses open source elements (uses OpenStreetMap).
It’s an impressive app that aims to improve the privacy and security of Signal for Android users, but it does have some downsides, such as:
Being only available for Android users
Can be a bit buggy
You are trusting a third-party instead of Signal
Overall, I think it’s a great app if you are an Android user looking to get more out of Signal and is worth considering. To learn more about Molly, make sure you read the documentation to understand the app, and if you find it valuable, make a donation!
